The river Rio de Contas, which begins in the Chapada Diamantina and flows into the ocean close to the town, represents the largest course of water in the county. It is sailable for a distance of 20 km up to the village of Taboquinhas, a district of Itacaré with one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the region.

There is an abundance of waterfalls in Itacaré. The largest are Pancada Grande, Tijuipe (beautiful!) and Cleandro, close to the town, and there are many other rivers and waterfalls in all sizes that one can find walking through the paths on the hillsides.
