In the town center there are well-preserved monuments from colonial times, like São Miguel church and the House of the Jesuites. Most of the mansions in Itacaré were constructed in the early XXth century. Some are now converted into pousadas (lodging houses) combining yesterday's charm with modern comfort.

The village grew in the direction of the beaches. That's how the Pituba neighborhood came about. A colorful typical neighborhood for artists, youth and surfers.

The main road, Caminho das Praias (path to the beaches) has festive bars and restaurants which serve typical Baiano dishes.

Recently opened to urbanization, the Concha neighborhood is where most of Itacaré's pousadas are concentrated, in a rich forested area. That's where you'll find the Condominium Conchas do Mar, the main urban development in Itacare.

The Passagem neighborhood is located on the other side of the village, close to the river Rio de Contas. Most of the inhabitants of the neighborhood are natives.
